Class of 2016 - Congratulations Fantasia

My name is Fantasia. I am originally from Newark, New Jersey. I first came to Florida in 1996 with my biological mother and the man she was dating because she was fleeing from an open DCF case. I lived with them until my 12th birthday. On this day my brothers, sisters, and I were taken into foster care. From the time I lived with them my siblings and I witnessed and dealt with every type of abuse, drugs, violence you could imagine. There were beatings with extension cords, belt buckles, and being body slammed on the floor. For the sake of graphics I will omit the details of these situations. I stayed in foster care until I was 18 years old and aged out on my own. I graduated high school in Orlando top of my class with highest honors in 2009. My senior year was also when I met my husband. After high school, I went to Florida State University in Tallahassee to go to school and my husband went into the army. I transferred out to Tallahassee Community College. I finished my two years there and transferred to Florida A&M University. I did end up finding out I was pregnant.

Volunteer Spotlight

John has been volunteering with the Women's Center for over a year and not only works at the front desk, but went through victim advocate training and goes to court to help victims with injunction hearings. John excels at working with clients. He is always very patient and goes above and beyond to get resources for clients if they are in need of something the Women's Center cannot provide. John also works on special projects for both the front desk and victim services. Any type of computer or research work, John takes care of it for us.

We are so happy to have him as a volunteer with us.

If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering
at the Women's Center, call Melbourne Office 321-242-3110

Thank You!

Thank you Trinity Lutheran Church in Titusville and your congregation for your generous donation of diapers to our Women's Center office in Titusville! Our community and clients will truly be blessed by your donation!

Thank you Disney volunteers Patty Howell, Jennifer, Debbie Chemberlain and Jennifer Teufer who represented the Brevard DCL (Disney Cruise Lines) Port Team made quilted toiletry bags and filled them with toiletries for our clients and donated the bags. Thank you Brevard DCL Port Team for this unique and awesome way of donating not only the time it took to make the quilts but you also took the time to fill the bags as well for our clients. You ladies are truly talented!

Students at Viera High School selected the Women's Center to donate the items they collected while conducting their community project. Maggie, Samantha, Cameron, Aubrey, Briana and Brooklyn dropped off over $300 worth of toiletries and baby items for our clients. These young students are a great illustration on how you are never too young to make a difference in the community around you. Thank you again and keep up the great work!
